There are Growing Domes in use today that are over 20 years old. We use high-quality materials and Arctic Acres Growing Domes come with a 5-year warranty for structural framing and a 10-year warranty for the paneling.
We also offer replacement parts for all components.
-
Arctic Acres domes have been adapted for use in Canada. There are minor differences between our dome kits and Growing Spaces’ dome kits:
Arctic Acres uses intake fans and attic fans instead of automated greenhouse vents. They are temperature-regulated using a thermometer.
Arctic Acres uses heavier gauge steel for the dome’s horizontal trim.
Arctic Acres uses a 45mm Pond liner rated for outdoor use.
Arctic Acres does not include a roller for the tape adhesive, however, they are quite affordable and are available at most hardware stores or online.
Any additional add-on offered by Growing Spaces is not currently offered by Arctic Acres - including, but not limited to: solar waterfall, moisture meter, thinner polycarbonate options, etc.
GROWING AND GARDENING:
-
The greenhouse is equipped with a sophisticated self-regulated heating system that harnesses the sun's natural warmth. Specially designed insulated panels focus sunlight onto a central water tank, creating optimal growing conditions. An insulated north-facing wall traps warm air, while an insulated foundation ring prevents frost and maintains a stable ground temperature inside the dome.
In addition, every Growing Dome Greenhouse includes a standard geothermal climate control system beneath the soil of the raised garden beds. This innovative system leverages the consistent temperature of the soil, tapping into its thermal mass to store and release energy. Solar-powered fans circulate air within the greenhouse, contributing to a well-balanced environment.
With optimal sun exposure, the combined effect of these features enables the dome to maintain a temperature approximately 20-25º warmer than the outside conditions. For very cold winter temperatures, some owners choose to supplement with additional heating options such as electric heaters, propane units, or wood-fired stoves. Others have found success with Ground to Air Heat Transfer (GAHT) systems as part of their foundation for an extra source of heat.
-
A typical greenhouse is designed to trap heat, Growing Domes are designed to regulate heat. Growing Domes come equipped with special features, such as automatic fans that (along with each dome’s general design) allow for control over your growing environment. This allows our domes to create an ideal growing environment for most plants, however to simulate the specific conditions you desire inside your dome, some adjustments and monitoring may be necessary.
-
There is information about the advantages and benefits of the geodesic design all over our website and the internet. However, in addition to the many innovations provided by Growing Domes specifically, the dome shape is more durable, longer-lasting, and (in our opinion) much better looking than conventional greenhouse designs.
-
On average, we have found that with basic gardening skills and productivity, the Growing Dome can produce 2.5 pounds of fresh food per square foot every year, offsetting the value of organic produce against the initial cost of the Growing Dome.
-
The size of the water tank was determined based on the volume required to maintain adequate thermal mass for each dome size. Approximate volumes for the water tank are:
• 15′ Growing Dome - 600 gallons (~2,700 litres)
• 18′ Growing Dome ~ 700 gallons (~3,200 litres)
• 22′ Growing Dome ~ 1,000 gallons (~4,500 litres)
• 26′ Growing Dome ~ 1,200 gallons (~5,400 litres)
• 33′ Growing Dome ~ 2,300 gallons (~10,500 litres)
• 42′ Growing Dome ~ 3,200 gallons (~14,500 litres)
-
Each kit comes equipped with an above-ground pond to create ideal growing conditions and allows for your dome’s self-regulating features to operate. It is highly recommended to install your water tank by the North-facing wall of your dome for traditional gardening, however you can customize and adapt your Growing Dome however you’d like: some of our customers prefer to use standard electrical systems to add all sorts of features to their domes.
-
Whether you’re new to greenhouse gardening or gardening in general, a Growing Dome can help create the ideal environment that can save you time, money, and effort. While we can’t guarantee the results you’ll see, we do all we can to bring you a product that will help.
-
These domes create such inviting spaces that even pests and bugs want to enjoy them. For the unwanted ones, we recommend avoiding harmful chemicals when possible. Instead, keeping your dome clean, the doors and windows secure, and with the use of Organic Pest Management techniques, you should be able to control most unwanted guests.
-
Mold and mildew are both types of fungi that grow best in warm, humid environments. Knowing optimal growth conditions for common greenhouse fungi allows greenhouse gardeners to prevent the growth of harmful fungi by maintaining a greenhouse environment that doesn’t optimize growth conditions for fungi.

INSTALLING YOUR GROWING DOME:
-
We offer six sizes of Growing Domes. Our smallest is a 15-foot diameter dome, and the largest is 42-feet in diameter.
To get an idea of the space you will need, we recommended placing a peg in the center of your possible location, tying a string to the peg, and measuring the radius (half of the diameter) from your center point. So for our smallest dome (15 ft), you will have a center point and a 7.5-foot long string you can then use to draw your circle representing your dome to get an idea of its scale. You will need an additional 1 foot around the perimeter in order to have enough space to work around; a 15 ft dome will need 17 ft in diameter for a smooth installation.
-
For gardening purposes, the site for the Growing Dome needs to have a minimum of 4 to 5 hours of clear sun for the dome to perform effectively. If it has less than this, the dome will still perform, but you may need to add auxiliary heat in the winter months. Trees to the West can be beneficial in the summer. Learn more about Growing Dome site selection.

Most owners will either construct the dome themselves with friends and family or hire a local builder. The kit is designed with self-install in mind and the online portal contains all of the information needed to assemble the dome, including written instructions, video walkthroughs, diagrams, etc.
We do have some certified contractors that we work with who have experience installing Growing Domes, however, their availability is much more limited and they usually reserve their projects for the larger sizes or community projects. We'd be happy to connect you with them if you're interested in pricing.
-
We recommend that at least 2 people participate in the installation for the smaller units (15’ - 26’) and at least 3-4 people for the larger units (33’ and 42’), though some tasks can be done alone. For building our greenhouse kits, we recommend that you have at least basic construction skills (such as experience working a drill, saw, hammer, and ladders).
The Growing Dome comes as a kit with all the parts precut, color-coded, pre-drilled, and ready for assembly. We provide a comprehensive manual, sets of videos and plans. Because our Growing Domes are prefabricated down to the finest details, all you need to do is order a kit and assemble it on site. Putting up a dome is also a fun activity to share with family, friends, and volunteers in your school or community.
If authorized by you (the purchaser) Arctic Acres will also provide this information and guides to any contractor or third-party you source.

Growing Dome Kits include all the materials you will need to construct your dome, minus the Owner Supplied Items! Please refer to the link below for more information here!
We strongly recommend that you use proper tools and techniques to lay the foundation for your dome, and take proper safety precautions while constructing your dome.
We refer you to Growing Spaces publications on the subject (the creators of the Growing Dome). Also, our team will provide you or the contractor you hire to build your dome with the instructions and materials they will need for a proper foundation. Just like any other structure, having a strong foundation is essential.
There are certain items needed for building the Growing Dome kit that are very bulky, costly to ship, and typically available at your local building supply store. These items are not included in the Growing Dome kit to help lower the final cost. Most materials are easily found at your local hardware supply store, but the sheet metal can be found at a heating & air conditioning (HVAC) or sheet metal supply store.
Find out more about what you’ll need to purchase here: Owner Supplied Items.
We will continue to update this section to help provide all our customers with the knowledge they need to construct, maintain, and enjoy their Growing Domes. Additional information is available to inquiring customers: contact us if you would like to know more.
