MATERIALS:

The primary materials of a Growing Dome are comprised of:

Polycarbonate panels: 16mm thick, r-value of 2.8 / 0.68 solar heat gain coefficient / 0.78 shading coefficient. Impact-resistant; 200x stronger than glass, 10x stronger than acrylic. Recyclable and light weight.

Sienna wood framing: treated, measured and cut by hand, corrosionresistant,non-toxic, and long-lasting.

*Western Red Cedar upgrade package: non-toxic, aromatic, corrosion resistant, durable, and naturally repels insects.

Aluminium brackets and hardware: marine grade, and corrosion-resistant.

Reflectix insulation materials: reflects 96% of radiant energy, fiber-free, and class A fire rating. Resists growth of fungi, mold, and mildew. Non-toxic.

DURABILITY / LONGEVITY:

Growing domes are engineer-rated for 180 km/hr wind speeds, but have stood strong against winds as high as 210 km/hr.

The geodesic shape is one of the strongest designs of any structure, allowing for a snow load of up to 7 feet (2.1 meters), or 75lbs per square foot of snow load!

Arctic Acres domes come with a 10-year structural warranty for our panels and a 5-year warranty for the framing to ensure the structure is sound throughout the initial seasonal changes and storms. However, Growing Domes are known to last decades.

GROWING / UV:

The dome sits on a 24” foundation wall. Wood composite siding insulated with R-10 insulation and lined with galvanized metal flashing. The Growing Dome engineering, materials, and technology are designed to create ideal internal growing conditions.

Growing Domes have 40% less surface area than traditional, rectangular greenhouses, helping retain heat even on cold winter nights.

Reflectix materials are locally-sourced, and reflect over 94% of solar energy with an R-value between 1 and 1.5 on its own. Growing domes requires ~2/3rds less heat than other greenhouses.

Growing Domes create a 72% light transmission and are UV-resistant.
