Shipping & Return

Returns and cancellation

Cancel within 10 business days of Arctic Acres receiving your order and the 50% deposit, and all funds are returned promptly.

Cancel after 10 business days and Arctic Acres reserves the right to withhold 10% of the invoice total, refunding the remainder within 90 days of cancellation.

Different terms apply if you cannot obtain permission or a permit from your building department or Home Owners Association and have not yet received the kit. A letter of denial from the building department or HOA must be sent to Arctic Acres for the purchase to qualify for the exceptions below.

With more than 10 business days notice before the scheduled shipment date, all funds paid toward the invoice are refunded, less any change fees that apply.

Where the order includes custom changes to the kit, for engineering or any other purpose, further deductions may apply case by case.

Shipping and delivery

Arctic Acres determines the method of delivery and will do its best to accommodate your requests. Shipping fees are non-refundable.

Risk of loss or damage passes to the shipping carrier when the merchandise is picked up. We help with tracking and with submitting damage claims to the carrier. Bring any damage to our attention within 7 days of receipt if you would like our help with a claim. Photograph the damage, and note it on the freight papers when you sign for the delivery.

Once a shipment date is agreed, changing it within 10 or fewer business days of the original date incurs a $500 change fee, and a new date is set by our availability. That may mean a longer delay than you expect.

Where a custom kit is delayed, a daily storage rate applies while it is held at the Arctic Acres facility. Rates for custom kits are set case by case.

Instructions for offloading your kit are provided by Arctic Acres. Knowing the conditions at the delivery location in advance helps us plan the best shipping solution.

Warranty

Arctic Acres Growing Domes are supported by a 5-year structural framing warranty and a 10-year polycarbonate panel warranty, subject to the terms and conditions in your purchase agreement.

The structural warranty covers the dome's wood framing against qualifying weather-related damage or structural failure. It is intended to keep the framing performing through repeated seasonal changes and under the snow-load conditions the structure was designed for, provided the dome has been assembled, anchored, used and maintained to Arctic Acres requirements.

The panel warranty covers qualifying damage or failure of the polycarbonate panels. Where a panel is found to be covered, Arctic Acres provides a replacement.

Third-party components, including fans, shade cloths, vents and other supplied accessories, stay covered by their manufacturers' warranties. Those warranties are extended to you, and Arctic Acres can help coordinate replacement of anything that fails through a manufacturing defect.

Delivery inspection and missing parts

Inventory your kit within 30 days of delivery using the Load List included with the shipment. This confirms everything arrived and identifies anything missing or damaged in transit.

Missing or delivery-damaged items reported inside the 30-day window are replaced at no cost. Reports after 30 days are invoiced for the replacement parts and shipping.

The inspection period is separate from the long-term warranties above.

Installation

Three ways to build it

Some owners assemble their Growing Dome themselves or with neighbours and friends, others bring in help. All three routes are supported.

The 33 ft dome takes a crew of 4 about 60 hours to build on a prepared foundation. Build time assumes dry conditions and materials laid out before the crew starts.

  • DIY (do-it-yourself)

Best suited for hands-on owners with basic construction confidence, or for smaller Growing Domes.

    • Lower overall cost
    • Greater personal involvement
    • Requires time, tools, and coordination
  • Hire a contractor

Best suited for buyers who want to reduce coordination risk or prefer a more hands-off build.

    • Higher cost
    • Less direct involvement
    • Requires selecting and managing a contractor
  • Work with our builders network

Best suited for buyers looking for guidance toward builders familiar with the system.

    • Moderate to higher cost
    • Reduced learning curve
    • Access to experienced installers, based on area and availability

Arctic Acres supports your build either way, with a step-by-step online build portal that your contractor can be given access to.

Frequently asked

What are Growing Domes?

Growing Domes® are a proprietary geodesic greenhouse product owned by our American partner Growing Spaces Inc. in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. They are masterfully engineered dome structures that are designed to be the best greenhouses available. They come equipped with features and capabilities mentioned on the Growing Dome webpage and catalogue, and are highly customizable for both professional and recreational use.

What are Growing Domes used for?

Aside from their good looks, Growing Domes are advanced pieces of technology designed to create a secure, comfortable, sustainable, self-regulating environment inside (while keeping out anything from gale-force winds and mounds of snow to unwanted pests and harmful UV rays). These domes are perfect for horticulture, gardening, and more.

Where are Growing Domes manufactured?

Every Arctic Acres Growing Dome is made to order in Portland Ontario, delivered locally, and shipped nationwide across Canada.

Do I need a building permit?

If you live in a subdivision or controlled development, chances are you will need to get approval from your Homeowners Association or municipality to install a Growing Dome. We can provide engineering plans and written instructions/diagrams. Site plans, submission of the permit application, and any additional engineering fees are the responsibility of the purchaser or landowner. Our team is available to assist should you have any questions or hurdles with your permit application.

How do Growing Domes stay warm during the Winter?

The greenhouse is equipped with a sophisticated self-regulated heating system that harnesses the sun's natural warmth. Specially designed insulated panels focus sunlight onto a central water tank, creating optimal growing conditions. An insulated north-facing wall traps warm air, while an insulated foundation ring prevents frost and maintains a stable ground temperature inside the dome.

In addition, every Growing Dome Greenhouse includes a standard aeration system beneath the soil of the raised garden beds. This innovative system leverages the consistent temperature of the soil, tapping into its thermal mass to store and release energy. Additional geothermal systems can be added for an enhanced effect. Solar-powered fans circulate air within the greenhouse, contributing to a well-balanced environment.

With optimal sun exposure, the combined effect of these features enables the dome to maintain a temperature approximately 20-25ºC warmer than the outside conditions. For very cold winter temperatures, some owners choose to supplement with additional heating options such as electric heaters, propane units, or wood-fired stoves. Others have found success with Ground to Air Heat Transfer (GAHT) systems as part of their foundation for an extra source of heat.

Will a Growing Dome work for my situation?

Growing Domes are adaptable structures that can be customized to fit your specific needs and wants. We recommend exploring our website and social media, reaching out to a member of the Growing Dome community, or speak to our team directly. If it can be done in a dome, we’ll let you know!

How does assembly and installation work?

Most owners will either construct the dome themselves with friends and family or hire a local builder. The kit is designed with self-install in mind and the online portal contains all of the information needed to assemble the dome, including written instructions, video walkthroughs, diagrams, etc.

We do have some certified contractors that we work with who have experience installing Growing Domes, however, their availability is much more limited and they usually reserve their projects for the larger sizes or community projects. We'd be happy to connect you with them if you're interested in pricing.
